Two Men Shot in New Brunswick

Two men were shot in the legs Saturday, Oct. 25, according to police.

According to, police received a report of a shooting near 33 Commercial Avenue at approximately 11:53 p.m. Upon their arrival, they located two victims in the area of building 8, both shot in the legs. The victims were identified as Ricky Drake, 30, of Piscataway and Ryan Howard, 24, a local man.

Both men were transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital where they were treated for their nonlife-threatening injuries.

According to, the investigation suggests this shooting stem from an ongoing dispute between the victims, an acquaintance and the shooter.

According to a dispatcher on, “possible suspect car is a dark red vehicle, mid-to-late 90s, with tinted windows.” The vehicle was also said to have fled on Commercial Avenue towards George Street. The incident is under investigation.

Nevertheless, tenants are beginning to express frustration over the lack of gun control near the area. Beverly Marshall, tenant association president, reported on that there have been three shootings at the apartment complex since July.

“It’s getting really bad around here,” said Marshall. “This last shooting was too close.”

Marshall said she would like to see police officers hired to patrol the complex several days a week and on weekends.

While initially police were patrolling the area, she said that as soon as they stopped the crime started up again.
