The body of a man who police believe jumped to his death from the Morris Goodkind Bridge on Route 1 was recovered from the Raritan River this morning.

The body was found approximately 300 feet south of the bridge at about 8:50 a.m., police said.

The initial search began around 2:30 a.m. when a witness reported seeing a man on the railing of the bridge outside of a parked truck.

New Brunswick Police and Fire Department personnel, along with officers from East Brunswick, Edison, Perth Amboy, and the New Jersey State Police, conducted the search throughout the morning.

Police said that, at this time, there is no evidence to suggest that foul play is involved. New Brunswick Police Capt. J.T. Miller said no other information was available because the “case is still under investigation.”
